Govt to complete its tenure: PM

Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has said the elected government will complete its five year tenure despite unwarranted criticism by some undemocratic forces.
Addressing an achievement award giving ceremony of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry at Expo Centre here on Saturday, he said some undemocratic forces were involved in unjustified propaganda campaign against the elected government which came into power with heavy manadate in 2008 elections, adding that it was unfortunate, that some quarters were trying to destabilize the government.

He said that political stability was necessary for the economy of the country and rumours always damaged the economic stability.

The prime minister said trade and politics were inter-related, adding the government was working to achieve the trade approach in the European markets to facilitate the traders.

He said the PPP was not presented the government in the shape of gift and many national level leaders including Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed, Nawabzada Nassrullah Khan and Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had to face hardships to put the country back on the road of democracy.

He said the PPP always practised the politics of principals and turned down the “offers” of becoming into power through back door.” We paid number of sacrifices for the democracy and getting into power which was possible mainly because of the trust and faith of people of Pakistan in the PPP,” he added.

He said the PPP was a federal party and had its deep roots in all the four provinces and Gilgit Baltistan (GB). We are having support of people from all parts of the country, he added.

The Premier said the PPP had not only fought for the rights of the masses but also, he added it struggled for an independent judiciary and free media.
