Firdous says Sharif’s statements were controversial

Federal Minister for Population Welfare Firdous Aashiq Awan late Friday night said that some remarks of PML-N Chief Mian Nawaz Sharif’s in today’s press conference were controversial.

Talking to a private TV channel Firdous Aashiq said “it is a beauty of democracy that every individual has the right to criticize the government but it should be based on facts.”

While commenting on Nawaz Sharif’s statement that the incumbent government is corrupt, she said that Nawaz Sharif has levelled allegations against the government without any evidence.

Replying to a question about National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) cases, the minister said that President Asif Ali Zardari enjoys immunity under to the constitution and the NRO cases cannot be reopened against him.

She said that all the institutions should perform their work for the welfare and prosperity of the country.

Firdous Awan said the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government is working to strengthen the democracy in the country.
