ECB threatens legal action against PCB chief

England cricket chiefs on Thursday demanded an apology from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ijaz Butt over his allegations that the England team had been involved in fixing a one-day international match.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said that a letter had been sent to Butt demanding “a full and unreserved apology” for claims that Andrew Strauss’s team were involved in fixing the third limited overs match with Pakistan last Friday.

“Mr Butt has been advised that if a satisfactory response is not received, legal proceedings will be commenced against him without further notice,” it added.

The Pakistan tour of England, which has been plagued by claims that the visiting team fixed elements of matches, finished in Southampton on Wednesday, with the hosts winning the decider of a five-match one-day series.
