Pakistan’s fast rising cueist Asjad Iqbal of Punjab has been top seeded for Del Monte Snooker Cup National Ranking Snooker Championship being played here at Karachi Club’s Amir Bakhsh Billiards Hall from September 28 to October 3.
Top 16 cuemen from across the country are featuring in the toughest event of the on PBSA circuit. Star cueist Muhammad Sajjad will be defending his crown in the event.
“This event will serve as the qualifier for the world championship. On the basis of national ranking chart top two cueists will represent the country in World Snooker Championship being staged in Damascus (Syria) in December,” PBSA Chief Alamgir Shaikh said on Friday.
Rs.105,000 will be at the offer with winner taking Rs.50,000 and runner-up Rs.30,000 and losing semi-finalist will get Rs.10,000.
Players are drawn in two groups and two top cueists from each group will qualify for the semi-final rounds which will be played on October 2 while the final will be contested on October 3.
This will be good build-up for the players before the Asian Games where a 5-member squad will represent the country in snooker singles and doubles and team contest. Following are grouping: Group “A” Asjad Iqbal (Punjab), Imran Shehzad (Punjab), Sohail Shehzad (Sindh), Muhammad Asif (Punjab), Omair Alam (Sindh), Qasim Kamani (Sindh), Abdul Sattar (Sindh), Rambail gul (KPK). Group “B” Muhammad Sajjad (Punjab), Muhammad Asif Toba (Punjab),Imran Qamar (Punjab), Muhammad Jawed (Punjab), Sharjeel Mahmood (KPK), Sultan Muhammad (Sindh), Shahram Changezi (Punjab), Nauman Awan (KPK).
