PML-N candidate wins by-election in Rawalpindi

Al-Hajj Ghulam Raza, the father of former MPA Malik Yasir Raza has won by-election of PP-13 (Rawalpindi XIII) by securing 12,969 votes amid low turn out and lack of enthusiasm.

Addressing a press conference here Deputy Election Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Yaqub said Raja Shahid Papu has secured 4,006 votes, Ishtiaq Mirza 3,955 votes. While Chaudhary Adnan of Pakistan Muslim League Quaid Azam got only 3,003 votes, Abid Mughal of Awami Muslim League secured 719 votes.

According to Sheikh Yaqoob a total of 25,361 votes were polled and 297 votes were rejected while polling ratio remained 17.69 percent.

A total of 11 candidates including an independent Raja Shahid Papu, Chaudhary Adnan, former MPA Ishtiaq Mirza, Abid Pervez Mughal of Awami Muslim League (AML) contested for the seat.

The PP-13 seat fell vacant after the Apex court disqualified PML-N MPA Yasir Raza for holding fake degree and ordered re-election in the constituency.
