Five of family drown in floodwater near Jampur

Five members of a family drowned in river Indus floodwater after their boat capsized near Kotla Mughlan area, some 10 kilometres away from Jampur city on Wednesday morning.

An eight month old baby girl Humaira and her 10 year old sister Javeria were, however, rescued and doctors are giving treatment to the both.

Yaqoob Gopang was leading his family including his wife Samrina Bibi, his sons Shakir (22) and Yasir and daughters Savera (19), Javeria (10) and Humaira (8 months) to Jampur by a private boat. However, water started entering their boat at Thul Mahtam area. Rescuers present at a nearby camp jumped into the water after noticing that the boat was about to capsize and were able to rescue Javeria and baby girl Humaira.

However, the remaining five persons drowned and their bodies have been recovered from the flood waters, official sources said.
