$2.5bn missile def system with Israel under fire

$2.5 billion missile def system deal with an Israeli firm is in doldrums as firm is likely to be blacklisted in India.
Meanwhile, CPI (M) and some other parties demanded a CBI probe in $2.5 billion missile def system deal alleging a “huge scandal” in awarding of deal to an Israeli firm already under investigation.
They contested “Why did the government get the contract with Israel Aerospace Industries signed on February 27, 2009, just two days before the announcement of Lok Sabha election?”
CPM Leader Sitaram Yechury while pointing out that the Israeli firm was already under CBI probe in India in connection with the Barak missile deal, demanded suspension of the agreement to develop a medium range surface-to-air missile system and a CBI probe into it.
He contested that CBI should probe this in conjunction with its investigation into the Barak deal in which former Defence Minister George Fernandes and the former Indian Navy Chief were involved, ironically with same Israeli firm.
