India clinch eight-run win over Australia

India pulled off a tense eight-run win over Australia in the fourth one-day international on Monday to narrow the visitors’ lead to 2-1 in the seven-match series.
Sachin Tendulkar top-scored with 79 to guide India to a solid 291 for four and Australia in reply were restricted to 283 for seven after mounting a fine chase on a slow pitch.
Left-arm seamer Rudra Pratap Singh checked Australia by removing the dangerous Andrew Symonds (75) and producing a run out in the 46th over.
Opener Matthew Hayden had led the chase by top-scoring with 92 before the tide turned in the home team’s favour in the final overs. It was India’s first one-day win over Australia since January 2006, a streak stretching to 11 games.
The fifth one-dayer will be played in Baroda on Thursday.
