Italy seeks urgent EU meeting on Lebanon force

Italy has asked current European Union president Finland to arrange an urgent meeting of foreign ministers to discuss Europe’s contribution to a UN peacekeeping mission for Lebanon, the government said on Tuesday.
Foreign Minister Massimo D’Alema wants the meeting held as early as Friday in Brussels, said a ministry spokesman. Italy has offered to lead the 15,000-strong international force and has so far made the biggest commitment of up to 3,000 troops.
